Amidst the storm of recent news reports attacking the violation of human rights by China, the Uyghur Times stated that, “It was reported that President Trump will personally greet Xi Jinping at Joint Base Andrews on September 24, 2026... Xi Jinping bears top responsibility for the Chinese government’s systematic repression of Uyghurs.” It is expected that the United States tolerates, or even encourages, open criticism of the Chinese repression of Uyghur Muslims to embarrass the ruler of China ahead of, during, and after his visit to Washington. However, the U.S. does so whilst its own oppression of Muslims far exceeds that of China. As for the tyrants of China, their war against Islam in East Turkestan predates the current Sino-American conflict by decades and centuries.

O Muslims! East Turkestan is our land and our concern: East Turkestan is an Islamic land that was opened and flourished, in the time of the dominance of the Khilafah (Caliphate). The army of the Umayyad Khilafah, led by Qutayba Bin Muslim, advanced eastward until it reached Kashgar—the capital of East Turkestan—and conquered it in 95 AH. Later, in the year 232 AH, in the transition from the Ummayad era and the early period of the Abassid era, Sultan Satuq Bughra Khan, founder of the Qarakhanid Dynasty, embraced Islam, followed by his sons and senior state officials. From that day forth, Islam prevailed throughout the region; the Noble Quran was translated, masajid were erected in place of temples, with 300 masajid built in the city of Kashgar alone, and thus Allah (swt) bestowed the blessing of Islam upon East Turkestan and its people.

O Ummah of Islam! The hostility of the rulers of China against Islam in East Turkestan extends to centuries: As the dominance of the Khilafah began to decline, the tyranny of the Chinese mushrikeen increased. In 1759, bloody battles erupted between the Muslims of Turkestan and the Chinese Manchu rulers, in which over a million Muslims were martyred. The Manchu rulers subsequently maintained control over East Turkestan until 1862, a period marked by fierce resistance from the people of East Turkestan against the Manchu occupation. In a final confrontation in 1863, the Muslims succeeded in expelling the Manchu rulers. However, massive Chinese armies succeeded in re-occupying East Turkestan in 1876. From that day forth, East Turkestan was designated as “Xinjiang,” which means “New Frontier in Chinese,” and on November 18, 1884, it was formally annexed into the Manchu Empire.

O Ummah of Islam! Our brothers and sisters have been resisting the tyranny of the Communist Party in China for decades: After the Chinese Communist government assumed power, the people of East Turkestan attempted to liberate themselves from Chinese occupation. They staged several uprisings and succeeded twice—first in 1933 and again in 1944. However, China occupied East Turkestan in 1949, imposing communist control with horrific massacres. The land was divided into 450 forced labor camps where Muslim workers and peasants—who constituted 98% of the population—were compelled to labor; many perished in these camps. Raising the slogan “the Islamic religion is opium” the Chinese closed 28,000 masajid and 18,000 Islamic schools, burning 730,000 religious books and Islamic manuscripts. China even conducted 45 nuclear tests in the desert of East Turkestan, in Lop Nur Nuclear Test Base from 6 October 1964 until 29 July 1996, causing nuclear radiation to spread across most parts of East Turkestan, causing terminal cancers. Nonetheless, Muslims launched 45 uprisings against the Communists between 1949 and 1968, but approximately 360,000 Muslims from East Turkestan were executed for standing up to the Communists.

O Muslims, your rulers will never support the Muslims of East Turkestan: Instead, they hide the crimes of Xi Jinping and the evil Communist Party he leads, so that they can establish Chinese economic colonialism in our lands, alongside American economic colonialism. They have opened your markets and resources to Chinese companies, and taken on crippling loans based on riba (interest) from Chinese banks. Worse still, some of them are assisting the Chinese in pursuing the Uyghur Muslims who fled to the lands of Muslims for sanctuary! They do so even though the Islamic Ummah holds the jugular vein of Chinese industry in its hands, through its control of both the world’s largest oil reserves and the straits through which Chinese oil tankers must pass. They do so even though the navies of Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Türkiye and Egypt can impose a crippling blockade by sea, whilst the armed forces of Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran can sever the lifelines of China over land.

O Muslims! The return of our shield, the Khilafah, alone will compel the ruler of China to end his war on Islam: Then, the ruler of China will be made to remember the actions of the military commander of the Ummayad Khilafah, Qutayaba Bin Muslim, in West Turkestan. In the year 87 AH, Qutayba fought to end the incitement of hostility against Muslims within Baykand (بيكند), a town in the region of Bukhara. By midday, Allah (swt) had granted the Muslims victory. In Al-Bidaya wal-Nihaya (البداية والنهاية), Ibn Kathir narrated, وكان الذي ألب على المسلمين رجل أعور منهم ، فأسر فقال : أنا أفتدي نفسي بخمسة أثواب صينية ، قيمتها ألف ألف ، فأشار الأمراء على قتيبة بقبول ذلك منه ، فقال قتيبة : لا والله لا أروع بك مسلما مرة ثانية ، وأمر به فضربت عنقه “The man who had incited hostility against the Muslims was one of their own—a man blind in one eye. When he was taken prisoner, he said, “I will ransom myself with five Chinese garments worth a million dirhams.” The commanders advised Qutaybah to accept the offer, but Qutaybah replied, “No, by Allah! I shall not let a Muslim be terrorized by you a second time." He then ordered his execution, and the man was beheaded.”

And then, the ruler of China will see the actions of Qutaybah in front of him, in East Turkestan. Ibn Kathir also narrated how Qutaybah subjugated the oppressive ancestor of Xi Jinping, ثم اتفق الحال على أن بعث صحافا من ذهب متسعة ، فيها تراب من أرضه ليطأه قتيبة ، وبعث بجماعة من أولاده وأولاد الملوك ليختم رقابهم ، وبعث بمال جزيل ليبر بيمين قتيبة  “An agreement was reached whereby the Chinese ruler sent large golden platters filled with soil from his land—so that Qutaybah might trample it underfoot—along with a group of his own children and the children of kings and a massive sum of wealth to honor Qutaybah’s oath.”

O Armies of the Islamic Ummah! Depose the rulers who are weak before the disbelievers and tyrants against the believers: Allah (swt) said,

[وَإِنِ اسْتَنصَرُوكُمْ فِي الدِّينِ فَعَلَيْكُمُ النَّصْرُ]

“And if they seek support for you for the Deen, then you must extend support,” [TMQ Surah Al-Anfal:72]. It is a Shariah obligation upon you to establish the Khilafah (Caliphate) and appoint a Caliph, so that you may attain the honor of championing the oppressed. Therefore, Hizb ut Tahrir seeks your nussrah (military support) to establish the Khilafah Rashidah (Rightly-Guided Caliphate) upon the method of the Prophethood; so respond, O descendants of Qutaybah bin Muslim!
