On 17th July 2009, Hizb ut-Tahrir Wilayah of Sudan convened a large gathering in Khartoum on the anniversary of the destruction of the Islamic Khilafah "Caliphate". At the gathering, numerous leading personalities and representatives of political parties reminded those in attendance of the need for unity of the state and the importance of the Khilafah "Caliphate" in uniting the Muslims and their lands.
