In just the past few months, incidents of insecurity in the tribal areas and Balochistan, as well as the recent protests in Azad Kashmir, have claimed the lives of dozens of security personnel and civilians.

Reuters news agency reported on 17 July that Pakistan and Kuwait are negotiating a broad defence agreement modeled on the Saudi Arabia-Pakistan arrangement. According to media reports, Pakistan has already transferred thousands of troops and military equipment to Saudi Arabia. Reports of similar agreements with Qatar, Bahrain, and other Arab countries have also appeared in the media.
